About .biz
.biz launched in 2001 alongside .info as part of ICANN's first new-gTLD round, restricted in theory to "bona fide business or commercial use." The restriction was never meaningfully enforced and is essentially defunct today.
The TLD was originally operated by Neustar and is now under GoDaddy Registry's portfolio after a series of registry-business consolidations. Like .info, it competes mainly on price against the much-larger .com namespace.
.biz adoption never reached the levels of .com or even .org, and its reputation has suffered from heavy use by aftermarket resellers. It remains a viable budget option for small-business sites that cannot secure a matching .com.
