.app domain availability checker

The .app domain is a new generic top-level domain (new gTLD), operated by Google (Charleston Road Registry) and introduced in 2018.

Check whether any .app domain is available, with bulk lookups and WHOIS records for taken names. Type just the name and Naked Whois appends .app automatically.

About .app

.app launched in May 2018 as Google's flagship app-developer TLD. Google won the .app TLD via an ICANN contention auction in 2015, paying roughly $25M, which at the time was the highest reported new-gTLD auction price (later surpassed by .web's $135M sale in 2016). It is operated by Charleston Road Registry, the same Google subsidiary that runs .dev and several other TLDs.

Like .dev, every .app domain is on the HSTS preload list. Browsers refuse HTTP for any .app site and require a valid TLS certificate before the domain is reachable in normal usage. This is the headline differentiator from generic alternatives.

The branding fits mobile apps, web apps, and tools. Many SaaS products use .app as a workspace or shorter operator-side domain even when their main marketing site sits on a .com.

Notable quirks

HSTS-preloaded: browsers refuse HTTP for every .app domain. A valid TLS certificate is required before the site is reachable in mainstream browsers.
